Description

Winners of the 1943 Golden Gloves State Tournament will advance to the Tournament of Champions in Chicago, Illinois. Representing the state of Texas on the national stage, left to right, on the back row, are Private Gene Poletti (heavyweight), Private First Class Tom Attra (light-heavyweight), Private First Class Emil Zoltak (middleweight), Private Frankie Montoya (bantamweight), and Sergeant Manuel Ortega (featherweight). On the front row are Morris Carona (welterweight), Jose Andreas (flyweight), and Hubert Gray (lightweight). The soldiers are dressed in their military uniforms and are sitting on a wagon. The three fighters on the front row are wearing suits. They are shown waving good-bye to Texas as they left for Chicago.
