The 1943 Golden Gloves State Tournament is being held at Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas. Squaring off in a heavyweight bout, left to right, are Corporal Meade Willis and Private Gene Poletti. Willis is stationed at Camp Wallace. Poletti, a native of Chicago, Illinois, is stationed at Camp Polk. In the second round of the Saturday night fight, Poletti cornered his opponent and knocked him to the mat. Willis is shown on the ground in a corner of the ring as the referee prepares to call a knockout. Poletti went on to win the state tournament and advance to nationals.
