Description
Fireman L. B. Gonzales (center) and another unidentified fireman watching gingerly as Battalion Chief A. E. Rodgers loading one of the air raid warning mortars at Central Fire Station. The "load" is a bomb which, when lighted, will zoom 500 feet into the air before exploding. Fifty-four of the mortars have been installed at 18 fire stations throughout the city. All men are crouching on the ground and wearing uniforms. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, October 24, 1942.
