Description

"This silken service flag, with its lone star representing the more than 200 members of Broadway Baptist Church Service now in the armed forces, was dedicated at services Sunday morning. Admiring the flag are Reverend W. Douglas Hudgins (left), pastor, Mrs. J. M. McGinley and Jay P. Lowery Senior. Mrs. J. M. McGinley's husband Major McGinley is at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. Mr. Lowery's son, Naval Cadet Jay P. Lowery Junior, is in the Hell Divers at the University of Georgia at Athens." Reverend Hudgins is standing to the right of the flag, which is hanging vertically from the wall. He is holding his hand right next to the star, as if to draw attention to it. Mrs. McGinley and Mr. Lowery are standing on the left side of the flag. Mrs. McGinley is holding an edge of the flag as both she and Mr. Lowery appear to be looking at the star.
