$69,000 United Services Organizations (USO) Club at Brownwood, Texas was dedicated Monday, February 23, 1942. The principals in the dedication are pictured here. They are, from left to right, Colonel (Col.) Hugh C. Gilchrist, VIII Army Corps chief of staff; Mayor Wendell Mayes, Brownwood, Texas; Brigadier General (Brig. Gen.) Vincent Meyer, 18th Field Artillery Brigade; and Colonel (Col.) Frank E. Bonney, commander of Camp Bowie. All military officers are dressed in military uniforms. Mayor Mr. Mayes is dressed in suits and ties. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, February 25, 1942.
