Description

Texas Christian University's Ranch Week observance Friday and Saturday, January 30-31. These cowboys and cowgirls 'rolled their own' better than anyone else and carried off contest honors as the first day of Texas Christian University's Ranch Week got underway Friday. Left to right, Edwin Dowell, Fort Worth, Texas, first in the boy's contest; Betty Bowman, Fort Worth, Texas, the Ranch Week Queen, first in the girl's contest; F. S. Radcliff, Fort Worth, Texas, second for boys; Elna Jean Higginbotham, Fort Worth, Texas, second for girls; and Bill Hall, Midland, Texas, third for boys. The group of five are standing side-by-side against a wall, each of them wearing stylish Western attire. Bill is rolling a cigarette while he appears to be holding the pack of tobacco with his mouth from a piece of the package. Mr. Radcliff and Elna Jean are both rolling their cigarettes, their tobacco packs appear to be peaking from their pockets. Betty is holding her Bugler pack in one hand and her cigarette in the other, seemingly inspecting it. Edwin is sprinkling some tobacco into his rolling paper. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, February 7, 1942.
