Description
C. M. Callaway, officer manager for Farmer Commissioner Company (left), counting dimes of an African-American taxi driver from Mexia, Texas. Mr. Callaway is shown sitting at a table that is covered with bound envelopes and a pile of dimes given to him by the taxi driver. On the very edge of the table are the two tin cans the driver used as his ''bank." Mr. Callaway is holding an ink pen and is looking down at the pile of dimes while the driver sits next to him in another chair and looks away. Callaway is wearing a striped, long-sleeve shirt with a dark vest and tie while the driver wears a long, textured coat and holds a small box on his lap. The money he brought in is to serve as partial payment for $900 dollars' worth of stocker cattle bought at the Fort Worth, Texas stockyards. He brought in $300 dollars' worth in dimes. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, November 26, 1941.
