Description
On a slope at the west edge of Sycamore Park, long rows of "winterized" tents -- canvas-covered wooden frames, have been erected for the soldiers' recreation camp being established here. The camp will accommodate 500 soldiers. Shown is a view of the company street formed by two of the rows of tents. The street is to be graveled to keep the soldiers out of the mud. Besides the tents forming living quarters for the troops, the camp will have a large recreation tent, a 40 by 80-foot assembly tent, officers' tent, a hospital unit, and two frame lavatory buildings. Six unidentified men, wearing coveralls and hats, are walking in a row along the street. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, October 30, 1941.
