Abstract
DNP Repository: Using Technology to Help Nurse Leaders Make a Global Impact
Background
Prior to the repository implementation, UTA DNP scholarly projects were not tracked by the university. Publications estimates suggest 5–10 projects annually, based on Google Scholar.
Purpose
The purpose of this quality improvement project is to enhance scholarly dissemination and engagement by leveraging the UTA DNP Scholarly Project Repository, aligning with AACN Essentials, AONL Competencies, and CCNE Standards to support evidence-based practice and leadership development.
PICO Question
In DNP programs (P), how does implementing an open-access scholarly repository (I) compared to traditional limited publication practices (C) affect scholarly output and global dissemination of nursing knowledge (O)?
Methodology:
Design: A quality improvement approach using the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle.
Framework: Activities were structured to ensure alignment with competency-based education and leadership principles. Data collection included quantitative metrics (manuscripts published, downloads, and global reach).
Results: Since launch in June 2024, 94 manuscripts have been published, generating over 11,000 downloads from users in 55 countries. Outcomes confirm alignment with AACN Essentials, AONL Competencies, and CCNE Standards, demonstrating the repository’s role in advancing nursing scholarship, global knowledge exchange, and leadership development.
Conclusion:
Originally designed as a resource for DNP students to publish and share scholarly work, the repository has evolved into an open-access platform for global knowledge exchange. This initiative represents a collaborative effort among the UTA librarian team, high-tech experts, and DNP program leadership, underscoring UTA’s commitment to fostering doctoral-level professional and clinical practice.
