Abstract
Cancer is the second highest leading cause of death in America after Heart disease. Current treatment such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy aim to kill cancer cells, but it also harms the normal cells and greatly reduces a quality of life of a cancer patient. That is why there is a need of an innovative form of cancer treatment called immunotherapy. There are several types of immunotherapy such as Monoclonal antibodies and tumor-agnostic therapies, non-specific immunotherapies, oncolytic virus therapy, T- cell therapy and cancer vaccines. In this paper, I did a scholarly research on each type of cancerbased immunotherapy and concluded what each type of therapy does. Cancer vaccines prepare the body to respond against cancers. Monoclonal antibodies are man-made versions of immune system proteins. Monoclonal Abs can be very useful in treating cancer because they can be designed to attack a very specific part of a cancer cell. Oncolytic viruses infect and kill tumor cells. A better knowledge and understanding of immunotherapy will help us get ahead of cancer treatment using this method.
