Abstract
Design work from the 1999 fall semester, Studio Martin Price, School of Architecture, The University of Texas at Arlington. Abandoibarra. John Martin Oury. The Bilbao project is a composite of housing, commercial, provincial and municipal offices, library, hotel, commercial space and parking which interfaces with the city and the river. The grid of the city is respected with street vistas that continue between the swirling forms, which are inspired by Serra's torqued ellipses. Intensity of the swirling shapes increases near the Guggenheim Museum and decreases in response to the straight lines of the Euskalduna Concert Hall. Government offices are located adjacent to the museum, housing is near the concert hall and a hotel is at the bridge.
