Abstract
Design work from the 2007 spring semester, Studio Martin Price, School of Architecture, The University of Texas at Arlington. Groundscrapers on Grand. Mike Kosbab. This project includes apartments, hotel, shops, and restaurants conceived as groundscraping with a continuous diagonal rhythmic flowing of forms. These forms rise from 6-10 stories into the sky on a single profile that responds to the surroundings, and descend into the ground on a folding profile. The site in Los Angeles is on two blocks which drop sixty feet from the Disney Concert Hall site on Grand Avenue. Circulation routes occur on alternate floors to the two-story apartments. Escalators rise from the rail station to a horizontal promenade path, connecting diagonally to the entry steps of the public garden at the Disney Concert Hall.
