Description
Sign reads: "Services to Chicago New York." Located just south of the current DFW airport, Amon Carter Field was part of the Greater Fort Worth International Airport and the original hub of the airline company, American Airlines. The field was originally known as Arlington Municipal Airport and was built sometime in the early 1940s. It was renamed Amon Carter Field in 1950 and expanded in 1953 to include new runways, a control tower, terminal, and hangars. When DFW International Airport opened in 1973, the Greater Fort Worth International Airport closed down. The terminal was demolished in 1980.
