Description

KC-135 tankers sit along the flight line at Carswell Air Force Base. The first of 19 KC-135 midair refuelers will lift off from Carswell for a final flight to Arizona before being dismantled for parts. Air Force officials announced that seven of the tankers will be retired by the year's end, the rest will be used at other Air Force bases around the nation for refueling exercises and training. This is following the decision to close the base as part of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission of 1991.
