Description

Members of the broadcast news media group were up to their microphones in muck at Mayfest, but they weren't raking it. Newspeople from KXAS-TV Channel 5 and KVIL Radio in Dallas were merely participating in the second annual tug-of-war across the Trinity River. KVIL even called in a "ringer" (as in one who has been in a lot of them), professional wrestler Fritz Von Erich. KXAS also had one - the Dallas Cowboys' Harvey Martin. Pictured here is the KVIL group, some in the water, including Fritz Von Erich [Jack Adkisson], second from left, and David Von Erich [David Adkisson], far left. KVIL personality Ron Chapman is seen floating in the water in the foreground. Some 8,000 persons were on hand for the first day of Mayfest. Texas Christian University's (TCU) horned frog mascot is seen on the bank of the river.
