Portrait of Mrs. Arquilla Gardner, honored as woman of the year by Psi Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta sorority with a reception at Hilton Inn. Mrs. Gardner is a member of the Fort Worth Bicentennial Committee and the Mayor's Council on Youth Opportunities. She is a life member of Zeta Phi Beta, a service group which sponsors the Stork's Nest for the reduction of birth defects and other community projects, and is a member of Johnson's Chapel A.M.E. Church. She was also the first Black person to serve on the state executive board of the Texas Association for Childhood Education and first in the International Childhood Education Committee on Primary Education. Mrs. Gardner retired as a teacher at Como Elementary School after 37 years of teaching.
