Mrs. Beatrice Pringle representing Sepia Magazine of Fort Worth bid $7,000 for the grand champion steer of the Fort Worth Fat Stock Show, owned by Duane Hilbert and the Dejong brothers of Lu Verne, Iowa. Shown with Mrs. Pringle are Hilbert, center, and Miles Dejong. Pringle is the public relations director for Good Publishing Co., which owns Sepia Magazine. Other bidders for Corky, the 18-month-old 1,215 pound Hereford-Angus crossbreed, included a representative of Amon Carter Jr., First National Bank, Buddies Super Market, General Dynamics, Continental Bank, Piggly Wiggly, Fort Worth National Bank, and Fort Worth Cab and Baggage. George Levitan, owner of the publishing company, then had the grand champion reauctioned and said the proceeds would go to Mrs. Josephine Marshall, foster mother to 11 children.
