Description
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram won 14 of 16 awards at the Texas Gridiron Club professional awards contest. There were eight categories in the competition. Pictured here, back row from left, is reporter Glenn Guzzo, photographer Gene Gordon; front row from left is editorialist Cecil Johnson, columnist Elston Brooks, reporter Anita Baker, writer Gerry Barker, and Contributing Editor Jon McConal. Glen Guzzo won first place in the feature category for his story on Cullen Davis' defense lawyer, Richard "Racehorse" Haynes, and second place in the investigative reporting category for "A Texas Epic" about the Davis trial. Jon McConal won first place in the feature category for his stories detailing life in a Fort Worth housing project. Anita Baker and Raymond Teague (not pictured) won the investigative reporting award for their series, "Fort Worth Schools: A Trouble Image." Cecil Johnson won first place in the editorial writing category for an editorial written about the Mideast. Gene Gordon won first place in the feature photos category. Elston Brooks won first place in the column writing category about a conversation overheard in a bar. Gerry Barker won first place in the headline writing category.
