Description
First day of class at Lily B. Clayton Elementary School; Kenneth Ray Blakey, aged 6, accompanied by mother Connie Blakey, the first African-American student in Fort Worth public schools. Mrs. Blakey and her son are seen climbing up the stairs of the school building. Other children and parents are present, with some of the kids sitting on the steps and others on the brick railing. Published in Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition September 5, 1963.
