Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, October 5, 1950. Clipping reads "Greeting Misses Mona Knox, Dorothy Abbott, Shirley Ballard, Barbara Freking, and Movie Star Janis Carter, were the city's amusement editors, Interstate officials, and the girls' escorts--local disk jockeys. After being made honorary Texans, the gals posed with Chief Warrant Officer Henry Gawers' band (Carswell Air Base band)... Then, with police sirens blaring, the girls began a convertible motorcade to the Worth Hotel for a press luncheon... After lunch the quintet took a look-see at Capt. Wesley L. Pendergraft's new B-36 at Carswell Air Base with they dubbed 'The Petty Girl.'" The group was on a 26-city appearance tour to promote the musical comedy film "The Petty Girl" starring Robert Cummings as George Petty, the illustrator known for his series of pin-ups known as "Petty Girls" for Esquire Magazine.
