    Putnam, in eastern Callahan County, dates from arrival of the Texas & Pacific Railway in the area in 1880. The town of about 300 residents lies 12 miles east of Baird on U.S. Highway 80. Published in Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition March, 1954.
