Description

City Council criticized Friday but refused by a 5-to-4 vote to censure two recreation board members for selling insurance on more than $300,000 worth of recreation department property to the city. At the same time the council unanimously cleared Recreation Director Harry Taylor of charges of wrongdoing and gave him a rousing vote of confidence. The action came during a three-hour, tension-packed session at which Mayor McCann and Councilman Thompson called for the resignation of Recreation Board PResident T. Gordon Ryan and Vice President Ward Collier.
