Description
J. W. Stayley has gone through life laboring under a handicap. He doesn't have any Christian names just those two initials. That may sound trivial but, believe him, it isn't. The initals began spelling trouble when he was a child in school. A teacher spanked him when, she thought, he stubbornly refused to say what the initals stood for. And you can imagine the problems he encountered in the Army, where everything is operated on a first-name-and-middle-initial basis. Staley, after endless questions and explanations, began signing his name J. (I. O.) W. Stayley. The I. O., of course, stands for "initial only."
