Faced with the challenge of raising $150,000 for their missionary program during 1959, representatives of 900 churches in the Baptist Bible Fellowship oversubscribed the goal by $25, - 920 Thursday in close sessions of their three-day meeting at First Baptist Church. The approximately 2,000 delegates to the national meeting approved the sending of 129 missionaries to 19 different parts of the world. The Baptist Bible Fellowship comprises about 1,200 churches throughout the nation, bound together in the organization for missionary purposes. Its principal training ground is Baptist Bible College at Springfield, MO. where missionaries prepare for evangelistic careers. About 1,9000 persons attending the meeting here celebrate Thanksgiving with a turkey dinner Thursday afternooon. The concluding message of the convention carrying out the topic "The Hope of the Believer in Mission Work" was delivered by Rev. W. E. Dowell, pastor of High Street Baptist Church, Springfield, MO., and vice chairman of the Baptist Bible Fellowship missions committee. Rev. Mr Dowell recently completed a world tour of all the fellowship's mission stations. Thursday afternoon, delegates heard talks by Rev. Wendell Zimmerman, pastor of Kansas City Baptist Temple and one of the felllowship's mission directors, and Rev. Billy James Hargis of Tulsa, widely known radio speaker and publisher of the Christian Crusade. Speakers Thursday morning included Rev. Fred S. Donnelson, a professor at Baptist Bible College and chairman of the fellowship's missions committee, and Rev. G. Beauchamp Vick, a pastor of one of the largest Baptist churches in the world, Detroit's Temple Baptist Church.
