The trend toward culture and refinement was reflected in costumes women wore in Fort Worth around the turn of the century. From left, Mrs. John Flood, Jr. in "going-away" suit of brown velvet worn by Mrs. Varner Ball Stevens in 1909; Mrs. August C. Esenwein wearing the dress worn by her grandmother, Mrs. John Culbertson, in 1890; Mrs. Richard C. Newkirk in the Worth original gown made for Mrs. J.W. Barton when she was in Paris in 1889; Mrs. Roy A. Westbrook, Jr. wearing the tea dress Mrs. W. P. Bomar wore the year she made her debut, 1913; and Mrs. K. H. Beall in the 1925 Nemser model gown of Mrs. Bert K. Smith.
