Description
Consider Buyer, Turkey Raisers Told - Turkey growers should concentrate on giving the housewife exactly what she wants, the president of the National Turkey Federation said here Tuesday. "we have concentrated too much on producing what we want," said Peter C. Crafts of Grasmere, New Hampshire, in a speech at the 35th annual convention of the Texas Poultry Improvement Association. Turkey programs were featured Tuesday as the three-day convention began. Egg production will be featured Wednesday, and broilers Thursday. An explanation of self-help turkey legislation proposed by the National Turkey Federation was presented by Crafts. He explained that an "enabling" act proposed by the federation would allow turkey growers to develop a marketing order for turkeys, which would be approved by two-thirds vote of the growers before it could become effective. Crafts emphasized that the marketing order would not be used to control production. He said marketing order would be a means of raising money in the turkey industry. This money would be used to stabilize turkey prices, he explained.
