Description
Three Men Charged in Boyd Affray - Three Boyd men who figured in the Main Street gunfight which touched off a mob scene here Wednesday have been charged with assault to murder, Wise County Sheriff Carl (Rook) Ramsey told the Star-Telegram Thursday night. Ramsey said the charges were filed in the court of Peace Justice Ray Nobles in Decatur against Warren Saulter, 23, Orville Lee Peel, 22, and Joseph Earl Henderson, 21. Henderson and Boyd Police Chief Lee Cockrell were wounded in the gun battle. Henderson, who is being treated at Azle Clinic & Hospital for a wound in the right arm, made a statement to the sheriff regarding the fracas, Ramsey said. Ramsey declined to comment on Henderson's statement, explaining that he has not completed his investigation. Saulter and Peel made bond of $5,000 each Thursday, the sheriff said. Sheriff Ramsey related the new developments in the case in a telephone conversation from Rhome, where he was called Thursday night to investigate a teenagers' gang fight at a Rhome skating rink.
