Description

Teen-Agers Among Honored in Treatment Center Work - Teen-age boys and girls were among the 28 junior volunteers who received recognition Thursday afternoon for their work at the Fort Worth Society for Crippled Children and Adults treatment center at 4700 South Riverside Drive. Dr. F. C. Rehfeldt, society president, presented each of the young people an Easter lily pin, symbol of the society. The entire group was honored at a party after the presentation of the pins. Mike Moore, 15, of 2141 Ridgeview and Cliff Whatley, 13, of 2152 Ridgeview were the only boys in the group. They got the idea for helping at the center from the work their sisters were doing. Mrs. Annette Martin, director of the Volunteer Center, which supplies many of the workers commended the boys and added that she would like to see more boys donate time to the center. Mike and Cliff worked in the speech therapy department and said they "sure enjoyed the work." Other junior volunteers came from Girl Scout Troop 492 and through the Volunteer Center. Earlier in the day a Bell Helicopter delivered an exercycle to the center as a gift from contributors to the Bell Humanity Fund. On hand to receive the gift was Dr. Rehfeldt, Robert Scott, director of the society, and J. D. Gamel, president of the Tarrant County United Fund. First patient to try out the bike was Cheryl Kay Smith, 9, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack B. Smith of 5705 Lenore. The Fort Worth Society for Crippled Children and Adults is a United Fund agency.
