Tarrant County Judge Brown Quits - Judge Brown officially announced his resignation Thursday, urging county commissioners to follow a five-point building and improvement program. He submitted his resignation to Commissioners Court at 10:30 A. M. The judge will leave his office Saturday, ending more than 19 and a half years as an elected county official. Members of Commissioners Court named Marvin B. Simpson Jr., 43-year-old county judge-nominee, to serve out Brown's unexpired term. Soon after Brown's announcement, Simpson took the oath of office from his former law associate, 67th District Court Judge Brewster. The 69-year-old Brown said he had no plans for the immediate future. "There's one thing I can tell you, though," quipped the judge, "I'm not going to retire. I'm too poor. I guess you could say I'm looking for a job." Brown gave no official reason for stepping down from the job he's held since January 1, 1949. However, reports are that he was quitting because of his wife's illness. In thanking commissioners for their work during the last few years, Judge Brown called on them to continue operation of the county government on a pay-as-you-go basis. "I realize we've had a lot of arguments up here, but I think they have been good for the county government. This is the place where arguments should be settled."
