    Description

Another also struck by bullet - Police Chief Lee Cockrell was wounded seriously and another man shot late Wednesday afternoon in a gun fight on Main Street which stirred up the feelings of this Wise County town. Cockrell, 47, was hit in the right arm and twice in the back. He was reported in serious condition at St. Joseph's Hospital in Fort Worth. The other man, Joe Henderson, 21, of Boyd was shot in the right upper arm. He was reported in fair condition at Azle Clinic. Accounts of the fast-action gun battled varied, and Wise County Sheriff Carl Ramsey had not completed his investigation late Wednesday. Ramsey said he is holding two men, Orville Lee Peel, 22, and Warren Saulters, 23, in "temporary custody" until completion of the inquiry. Ramsey, during the investigation here, kept a wary eye on a milling throng of residents which clogged the main street venting feeling about the shooting. He termed the situation one which had the makings of a "young war." The crowd appeared after Patrolman A. G. Smith and another policeman came down the street with shotguns tucked under their arms.
