Description
Encyclopedia Won with Query on Counterfeiting - "How can you tell counterfeit money?" That's usually a question left to the bankers and merchants, but to Mary Pearl Lavender, 12, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Lavender of 3209 North Elm, it was a youngster's curiosity. And for that curiosity, Mary Pearl has won a 15-volume set of Encyclopedia Britannica Junior. Her question was selected for use in the Star-Telegram's "Tell Me Why" column on August 9. Mary Pearl, who just returned from a vacation and was told of her award, said she became interested in the detection of counterfeit money from a discussion with a girl friend last year at school. She has a hobby of collecting quaintly dressed dolls. She will enter Diamond-Hill Jarvis Junior High School in the fall.
