Description

Harry Bowser of Cleveland, Ohio, left, with Stanley Schlenther. Even in a so-called time of recession, the American salesman has a $426,000,000,000 economy - the greatest sales era this country has ever known - as his prospect, Harry Bowser of Cleveland, Ohio, said here Tuesday night. Interviewed before he spoke to a dinner meeting of the Fort Worth Sales Executives Club at Hotel Texas, Bowser said that any recession that's felt today was brought about because somebody quit selling. With $426,000,000,000 in buying power - three time the economy of Russia - the American salesman "never in history had such glamorous, unusual, unique and quality merchandise to sell as he has today," Bowser emphasized. The answer to the question, "Why do consumers stop buying?" is a simple one, the speaker said. "When someone stops selling, someone stops making something, which means someone lost a job and stopped earning and, of course, that someone stopped buying," Bowser pointed out. He said this country must get back to the basic fundamentals of selling before conditions will show definite improvement. Bowser is sales development manager for Dairypak, Inc.
