Description
The worst hitter to make the major leagues was a slight 19-year old rookie who joined the St. Louis Cardinals for the last 18 games of the 1915 season and batted 0.246. Hornsby recalled being told that he would be farmed out the next year if he did not improve and add weight. But Hornsby, who the next season was to start a climb that would lead to the title of "best right-hand hitter the games ever known", farmed himself out during the winter and added more weight for the 1916 season.
