Members of the city's new inter-racial committee are shown at City Hall before undertaking the task of trying to relieve tensions caused when an African-American family moved into a white block in Riverside. Seated, left to right, are Dr. J. M. Burnett, co-chairman; Reverend J. G. Owens, Mayor Garrison, Carl Wiley and W. L. Stewart, chairman. Standing, left to right, are W. H. Wilburn, I. P. Anderson, T. J. Harrell, J. Lee Johnson Jr., Dr. W. J. Danforth and J. M. North. The committee had an exploratory executive session after Mayor Garrison introduced each memeber and thanked each for agreeing to serve on the committee.
