The reserve grand champion steer of the stock show was sold for $ 3,500. Amon Carter Jr., right, purchased the Hereford for the Amon G. Carter Foundation to be donated to the Lena Pope Orphans Home. Owner Billy Bruce Bridgford of Colorado City also is known with the 1,050-pound prize winner. Published in Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition February 8, 1954.
