Sammie Jenkins, 7, nicknamed "Smiling Sam" at Cook Memorial Hospital for Children. Sam is shown lying on a bed at the hospital, where he has been a polio patient for a year and a half. Published in Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition January 20, 1954.
