Mark Flanagan, center, fourth suspect in a beating case, surrenders to District Attorney George Cochran, right, with his attorney, Byron Matthews, at left. Clipping reads: "Mark Flanagan, 29-year-old police character, surrendered Monday [August 24, 1953] to face charges that he was one of four men who kidnapped and beat a Harris Hospital patient. Flanagan at first declined to talk about the incident but later admitted that her had whipped Marvin Stone, 30, of 515 E. Broadway...When Flanagan gave himself up to Assistant District Attorney George Cochran in a pre-arranged meeting outside Peace Justice Boyd's courtroom, he mumbled something about a radio and then accused Stone of telling police that they could find a stolen radio at Flanagan's house...[Flanagan] had made terms for the surrender with his attorney, Byron Matthews."
