Three F-84 "Thunder jets" roared from the runway at Barksdale Field, Shreveport, fully loaded with Jato assist for added power in the first take-off ever attempted by this type of long-range fighter craft under a full load. The planes are from the 8th Air Force's 27th Fighter Wing based at Bergstrom Field. Published in the morning edition, May 3, 1950.
