Description
Mrs. W. L. Dwyer and Judy Ann Dwyer. Clipping reads: "Girl Polio Patient, 5, Given Party By Proxy--Television. Five-year-old Judy Ann Dwyer had a birthday party by proxy Thursday [July 23, 1953]. Judy Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Dwyer of Cleburne, is convalescing from polio at City-County Hospital. Hospital rules bar visitors from the polio ward. But Judy's twin brother and sister, John Allen and Joan, 8, and another sister, Janet, 7, found a way around that one. They appeared on a WBAP-TV show (Kiddie's Playhouse) Thursday afternoon to sing the patient a happy birthday. Judy's mother brought gifts and a cake to the ward. The children later appeared below Judy's window to reaffirm their wishes... Also at the celebration was Judy's grandmother, Mrs. C. W. Sullivan of Weatherford." Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, July 24, 1953.
