Nine of these girls are candidates for Future Farmers of America Sweetheart while one will reign until a new one is chosen. The girls are, standing, left to right: Jo Ann Winchester of Weinert; Marian Hall of San Saba, Nealy Steinbock of Lazbuddie, Sarah Reynolds of Pittsburg, last year's sweetheart; Martha Ann Hale of Cold Springs, and Rosemary Spencer of Cross Plains, and sitting, left to right, Tommie Sue Hall of Rockwall, Sandra Barnes of Los Fresnos, Betty Jo Anhaiser of Houston and Jean McMullan of Sulphur Springs. Not pictured is the 10th candidate, Ruby Nell Turner of Ennis who was unavailable when the photo was taken. All of the girls are wearing dresses.
