It was spurned love, says Leona Bess, left, that made her hire a gunman to kill her lover, Howard Bigham Davis. Named as the man who fired a shotgun blast that left Davis armless instead of dead is Ernest Roberts, charged with assault to murder. Bess is shown covering her face at the Sherriff's Office.
