Description
Friedrich Hanau-Schaumberg, wants to be an American. Clipping reads, in part: "This Prince Won't Stand on Formality: A young man born and reared in Europe, with a background of nobility, but who now just wants to be an American, was entertained here in hospitable Texas style during the week-end. He is Prince Friedrich Hanau-Schaumberg of Vienna, who is living in San Antonio now, and wants folks to forget his title. He was the guest here of Grover Fulkerson, 661 7th Ave., who was host as an open house with Dr. Hendy P. Hare Jr., at the latter's apartment in Westchester House. The 27-year-old visitor and Fulkerson became acquainted in Bavaria, where Fulkerson lived for 18 months after World War II and as a worker for the Church World Service in relief and rehabilitation work. The young Prince's family lived in a castle near the Lake near Starnberg, and they often invited Americans to spend the week-end there... [Friedrich] was honored Saturday [April 11, 1953] at a party when Dr. Hare and Fulkerson invited 100 of their friends to call."
