Police Chief G. T. Hawkins left, stands with Traffic Sergeant W. T. McWhorter, right, of the Fort Worth police department. The two are shown standing in front of a new police wagon known as the "Black Maria". The new wagon, on a half-ton streamlined panel chassis, was equipped with a radio, to be used in roving assignments, 24 hours, day and night. Published in the morning edition, April 16, 1950.
