Description
A proud 5-year-old "papa" upset the routine of his kindergarten class Wednesday when he began passing out cigars in celebration of a blessed event. For a while Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Ellis, kindergarten teacher at Mary Louise Phillips Elementary School, was at a loss for words or action. Nothing in the birds-and-bees manual took care of this situation. Then the proud "papa," Johnnie Stegall, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Stegall, explained. The mother in the celebration was his dog, Pepper, who last week brought forth seven squirming puppies. Johnnie had to play the role of the proud father because no one is quite sure who he is or where he is. As for the cigars, they required no lighting. They were of the bubble gum variety. Johnnie handed out 37, one to each classmate and two to the teacher.
