Description
12-Day-Old Infant Able to Take First Swallow - Tiny Mildred Diane Singleton took her bottle at Harris Hospital Sunday, while her parents and a young Fort Worth surgeon watched anxiously. The 12-day-old girl sucked noisily on the nipple, and the water in the bottle bubbled to show she was getting some. Parents and surgeon watched to see what would happen next. The trick was not in getting the infant to drink. The question was - what would happen after the water was swallowed? Nothing happened. Mildred continued to drink noisily and happily. The parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Singleton of Brownwood, breathed silent prayers of thanksgiving. Said the young surgeon, "I feel just like a new father." And for little Mildred Diane Singleton, all 6 pounds of her.
