Navarro County Sheriff Dave Castles, center, and Deputy R. E. Jones, left, are shown bidding goodbye to William Ruthes Ray, right, outside his cell on death row. Ray was under the death sentence for the raping of a Fort Worth girl. His sentence was set to be carried out April 20, 1950. Published in the morning edition, March 19, 1950.
