Description

The cover, owned by Dr. L. A. Bernhardi, was started on its way across the Atlantic en-route to Panama but the submarine carrying it was recalled when the United States broke off relations with Germany in 1917. "U-Boat Brief" was written by the sender to insure transfer from regular mail service to the submarine service headquarters at Bremen.
