    Description

Members of the Arlington Volunteer Fire Department include, left to right, beginning with Johnny Clapper grasping fire station pole, Dinzel Huff, C. C. Barnes, Reverend Charles Dickey, Tom Bennett, Jack Cherry and Joe Houston. In 17 months Arlington rejuvenated it's volunteer fire department manned by shoe clerks, pharmacists, preachers, and editors. Arlington was in such a risk that fire insurance rates carried a 10 per cent penalty so the Lions Club rose to the challenge and the result was a revamping of the volunteer fire department. Published in Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, March 19, 1950.
