Description
This image shows Clay Sandidge, one of the last surviving members of the volunteer firemen who battled the Spring Palace fire over sixty years prior on May 30, 1890. Sandidge is shown sitting at the Al Hayne monument on East Lancaster, near the Palace site. Hayne, a hero of the fire, died saving others, and the monument in his honor was erected in 1892. Published in the morning edition, May 27, 1951.
