    Description

Jerome Dean, formerly of the St. Louis Cardinal's pitching staff and more recently a radio and TV sportscaster, was in town on business and says he never hear of this "Vinegar Bend" person. "Vinegar Bend" is Wilmer Mizell, the Cardinals' current spring training pitching rage. He's being touted by the St. Louis publicity staff as "a lefthanded Dizzy Dean". He is a 6'3 200-pound fellow from Vinegar Bend, who has 17-7 record with Winston-Salem. When informed of all these news items about "Vinegar Bend", Dean snorted, he has a long way to come is all I can say". Published in Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition March 16, 1951.
